It's Friday morning and the air is breezing through the windows in the very best way. Silas is up cleaning his office and blaring Taylor Swift's album because IT'S HIS JAM. He really loves "Picture to Burn", because it has the words "stupid" and "hate" in it. And I know it's wrong. I do. I should probably shut it down. The only problem is, sometimes things are stupid. Some things are kind of worth hating. Sometimes angsty kids need an appropriate channel to vent the stuff they spend all their time squashing. Who's to say Taylor isn't the answer?
(Sidenote: I have now blogged about Taylor Swift twice. Life is weird.)
Poor Silas. He shuffled into our bedroom at 7:30 this morning in a full-on whine and I was all, "Uh-oh...here we go..." Then he said this, "I didn't get my money. The tooth fairy forgot. Again."
Again, people.
Again.
As in, it's officially a "theme".
We can't be trusted with stuff like this. We're
(BUT WE'RE STAYING WITH FRIENDS TONIGHT. If we can't remember in our own home, what hope do we have in unfamiliar surroundings??)
And we wonder why he's so obsessed with Taylor and that stupid. old. pick-up truck he never lets her drive.
Since we're on the subject, this morning Si asked, "Mom, does X-Box work with Samsung TVs?"
We have never owned a gaming system of any kind and if my life depended on it I couldn't have told you we had a Samsung TV. I feel like he's got a shipment coming in. He's made a few calls from his office. He's working a deal.
In other news, I shared photos of our quirky, summer-fun living room over at Midwest Living.
And...I recently spent an hour gabbing on the phone with my new friend, Jamie Ivey for her Happy Hour podcast. You can listen in right here.

It was so much fun to be a part of Happy Hour. I'm new to listening to podcasts, but hers was the first one I ever listened to and I've listened to tons of them now. She does such a good job, and it makes cleaning the basement or walking laps feel infinitely less mundane.
That's all for me.
What are you up to today?
One time the tooth fairy came in broad daylight because we kept forgetting. It was equally delightful when the child was sent to his room mid morning "just to see" if the TF had been running late! :-)
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that. Seriously, my kids just started asking, "Mom can I just go get some money out of the jar?" (meaning the spare change jar.) With child number one that would've totally depressed me (that I blew it) but by child five, I said, "Yeah, go ahead." lol
ReplyDeleteIt was very freeing! ;)
Our tooth fairy once left a dollar bill with a nicely cut hole in it, as the tooth had a cavity (and no, we did not pay the dentist to fix a tooth that would fall out 2 months later - we just left it in....). Take home message - there are parents out there way more mean than you. Muhahaha ;-)
ReplyDeleteSiley needs to come to my house! Tooth fairies leave $5 bills and forget to take the tooth. (Btw, 12 yr olds still believe!) I rocked out to Tay on the way to TN a couple weeks ago. Girl knows how to rock! Also, loved the Midwest Living post!
ReplyDeletePicked green beans, and plan to order my new "BIKE"!!! Don't laugh, age has a way of bringing childhood back. Why don't you put Si in charge of being the tooth fairy??? He would rock the job.
ReplyDeleteOur tooth fairy forget sometimes, too ;) By the way, I love the 'Hello' lettering. Was that a flea-market find or is it still available somewhere?
ReplyDeleteThe tooth fairy has officially died in our house. Poor fourth kid. No more fairy left for her.
ReplyDeleteOur tooth fairy forgets and then lies to said child who then is given "help" to find said money.
ReplyDeleteI just listened to the podcast!! That was SO awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved hearing more of your story!!
Can't get enough of hearing your stories about God, your kiddos, Cory and the books you're reading!!!
1. i love taylor.. i can't help it.
ReplyDelete2. midwest living post? PERFECTION
3. i finally had to just say at our house "look... the tooth fairy is fake and it's my fault that you aren't getting money. sorry" and that was the day the tooth fairy dies forever at our house. it was sad - but not because my kids didn't seem to care once i told them. OR you can be cooler than me and set an alarm on your phone to remind you to go put the money under their pillow.
4. the happy hour.. i already told you... i started crying because i wasn't with you and i missed you and was jealous of jamie that she got to talk to you and i couldn't! ;)
Just looked at the pictures on Midwest Living. I just want to come and sit.
ReplyDeletePraying for our country.
ReplyDeleteThe tooth fairy has been late to our house too. It happens sometimes...she is a very, very busy fairy.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Arrows!!!!
The podcast was absolutely delightful! You were poised, funny, approachable, and gracious. You get an A+, Gold Star, and a Perfect 10!
You make me LOL! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteWhen you forget think of a creative story and write a cute note. Drop some coins in the bathroom on the floor and leave a tiny tiny note that said the tooth fairy got lost in the house and so she left the coins in the bathroom. Easy!!
ReplyDeleteWhen my husband of 15 years (and three children) was leaving me for another woman a few years ago, I LOVED Picture to Burn. The video is awesome too. Go for it. Country music heals.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the tooth fairy ALWAYS forgets over here, I just point out that what can you expect from someone so 'flighty'!
ReplyDeletelistening to the podcast now...just realized that your "voice" narrates you reading your blog to me... so when I heard you on the podcast I was like "what? which one is shannan? neither one is shannan!" I can't wait for your book to come out. and for me to memorize your real voice for mental blog narrations
