I Care About Celebs. I Just Do.

I made a big decision today. I decided that Giuliana and Bill Rancic are my new favorite celebrity couple. (Well, next to this one).

I know some blogs treat you with all of the best recipes. Some bleed maternal wisdom. Some know what ISO means.

I give you celeb couples.

While we're on the topic, can I tell you how badly I was shaken over the whole Jef & Emily scare? I Googled them fervently. I prayed for them, man.

I think this says something about me. Something strange and wonderful, though I've yet to put my finger on it...

Anyway, I'm thrilled for the Rancics. That's what I call them. "The Rancics". They're fine with it. I love that they are such joyful advocates of the story of family. Our family talks a whole lot about how God creates families in many different ways. It's just beautiful, all the way around.

(I do wish I could personally shelter her from any and all insensitive comments that will likely be cast her way over the coming years, but she seems to come from hardy stock. I'm sure she'll manage.)

Today, I'm painted over with so much love. I teared up in my closet, so full of God's love in my life right now.

*He sent me a new friend in my new town and I haven't overwhelmed her yet with my propensity to show up unshowered or my strange cookie drops.
*The small kids who live in my home are strong and healthy. They're learning and growing and I get to kiss them many times a day about the head vicinity or in the cleft of a sweaty-ish neck.
*The big kid who lives across town, behind bars, writes us letters without punctuation but with an abundance of the kind of smiley faces that have two lines for eyeballs.

Maybe the rash decision to throw my full support behind The Rancics is a symptom of acute sentimentality. Perhaps. Maybe gratitude can be so big and wild that it flows over to things that most people deem unworthy. Maybe God made me weirder than most. Maybe The Rancics should be Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Maybe I'm stalling because I don't want to fold the darks.

I'll keep you posted.

You can count on it.

Unfortunately.

  1. I LOVE the Rancic's too! I love that they named their baby Duke, I love her Mama...she has such kind eyes and I LOVE her smile. Her Papa seems so sweet too.

I have also prayed for a celebrity or two myself. Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey, Rosie, Michael J Fox. I feel like I've shared too much...

Let's just say you're speaking my language.

    XOXO,
    Angie

  4. When G&B are on the TV, Josh will shout to me "Your people are on!". That's what they are. My kind and funny and joyful people. I'll root for them any day of the week.

My most fav part of all of this is your big kid and his smiley faces. Now *that* slays me.

  5. I have no idea who these people are, and this celebrity thing is one more thing we DON'T have in common. But--if someone gave me the opportunity to spend a day with a famous someone--I would pick Rob Dyrdek, and not b/c I think he's cute, which I don't. He's just so much raucous in one body, and, really, I need more hilarity and mischief in my life.

  6. I love her. I don't know much about them but I do know a lot about jef & Emily. And let me tell you...I had hard core anxiety over it. I prayed for them too. I googled like every 5 minutes. I was so worried. I still am kinda....

  7. I had to click on every single one of those links to find out who they were. what does that say about me? sadly disconnected.

  8. Girlfriend, I admitted my obsession for Jennifer Garner here ( http://hillpen.wordpress.com/2012/09/02/ten-things-i-shouldnt-admit/) even though it was horrifying to admit because my time is better spent gardening or reading Tolstoy or making jam. But it's fun to think we know these people, and would be friends with them given the chance, and are giddy for their adventures in parenting. Motherhood is the great equalizer. Even though Mariah Carey calls her children "Dem Babies" (kidding? Sadly, no), they still puke and have explosive diapers and will someday say to their mother "you just don't understand." Go on with your celebrity-ness. I'm also partial to old Apprentice alums given my past history with that particular franchise. :-)

  9. YES! Love them! I cried frequently during the last season & stalked twitter for baby news. I have no shame in it, either. :)

  10. I was flipping the channels and came upon the X-Factor. I found myself concerned that Brittney Spears seemed too fragile to be launched back into the spotlight. Then as the show went on I became concerned about the people rejected on the show. I always find myself concerned about people on TV. I think that's why I like the old stuff. I'm safe as long as I'm in Mayberry or on the prairie with Ma and Pa :).

  11. Lol! Just before getting to my emails this morning, I had just spent 10 minutes on omg! from yahoo! reading about among others, the rancics. I'm with you there on the celeb interest (mine extends beyond couples... perhaps you'd be interested in this article ?)

    Glad you're feeling His love.

  13. Have NO idea who you are talking about and don't want to but let's dish about athletes!! I am a sports fan through and through so I am interested in the people who play them...in a wholesome way. :)

  14. I love to fold darks...but you can have that mountatin of unmatched stained white socks!

"Maybe gratitude can be so big and wild that it flows over to things that most people deem unworthy." That my sweet blogger friend is an excellent definition of gratitude!

  15. I love them, too.
I've been watching them since they first aired. Do you love them enough to DVR them? I do. :)

I'm SOOOOOOOOOO with you on my favorite sentence of yours in this whole post.

"Maybe gratitude can be so big and wild that it flows over to things that most people deem unworthy."

I choose to believe with all my heart that God is sacred in all things.

  18. About a week ago around 10:30 at night while I was lying in bed reading, my 16 year old son shouted from his bedroom, "Oh no!" Tell me it isn't so, Will Arnett and Amy Poehler are getting a divorce. I have nothing to believe in anymore..." My husband who was trying to sleep next to me did not appreciate our shouted conversation back and forth with disbelief over the news. I took that one hard. My other fav celebrity couple I don't know why is the Affleck/Garner one. It will be a sad day for me if they break up. I was thrilled when they had a third baby and that it was a boy. My husband thinks I am a weirdo...

    1. Ha! I was totally getting on here to talk about Will Arnett and Amy Poehler and you had already beaten me to it, Maureen! My heart ached and I had tears in my eyes when I heard the news. I might be a little too invested in the lives of celebrities.

  19. I feel like your admission of celebrity love has freed me. I love People magazine. I never buy it, but my children watch me stealing glances at the headlines (sometimes even flipping through the pages) while we're in line. I love Will and Kate. If you are weird, you are so obviously not alone. I think I'm like you - the different ways that family comes together fascinates me and causes funny tingly feelings in my tummy.

  20. I also care about celebs. I just do. And it gives me great comfort to know that other thoughtful, not-entirely-superficial people also care about celebs.

  21. You are too funny - haven't even seen the show! I am not a fan of most reality TV but have to admit to following the adventures of The Rancic's. They seem more "regular" and nice and they care about people so we care about them too. Following her battle with breast cancer made them even more "real". I don't think you would be disappointed with their show if you ever have time to fit it in your busy schedule.

  22. shhh, don't tell anyone...i pray for them, too. :-)

  23. I cried like a baby when "the Rancics" found out they were going to have a baby. They are such a likeable couple. I think it's awesome that you pray for them!

  24. Had to click through every one of the links because I was clueless...oh well...I live in a pb&j encrusted bubble.

  25. I had to google this stuff too since we don't have TV (gasp) but I too love the celebrity news in the checkout lane. I have thought several times that if more Christians genuinely prayed for celebrities instead of judging them so harshly the world would be a better place! I do love the Ryan Gosling "Hey Girl" quotes on Pinterest though! I have never to my knowledge seen a Ryan Gosling movie but these quotes make me like him especially after seeing an interview he did where the host handed a bunch of them and he cracked up laughing reading them. Any man who can laugh at himself is kinda sexy. :)
