This Kind of Day

God bless a cozy Saturday.

I'm willing to overlook the snowflakes falling from the sky right now since they're fat as nickels. But next week? I may not be so kind.

We all have something special planned today, but for now, we laze.

Important Pinterest Announcements:

     1. Creme Brulee Baked French Toast: 2 out of 4 stars. It looked nothing like the photo and was generally just too eggy for me. But we finished the pan, so there's that. Also, we topped it with fresh raspberries and blackberries, which helped.

     2. Healthy Banana Bread: 2.5 out of 4 stars. This is made with whole wheat flour and applesauce and honey instead of oil and sugar. It was moist and tasty, but just not the same. Apparently oil and sugar do more than just make us fat. They also taste really good. In Cory's words, "It was alright. Not the best I've had."

I hope your day is filled with tea parties or Lego builds or Mexican food with friends; something that fills your soul and helps you remember that this very day is an extra-special gift.

  1. I am a sucker for french toast but hate eggy soggy types. The best french toast I ever ate was at a B&B in Saratoga, NY. I think it was the thick crusty bread, or maybe it was just the experience where we were, but I still dream about that french toast.

  2. I was curious about that banana bread....guess I'll stick to the original ;). Regarding French toast, my all-time FAVORITE version is made from a loaf of crusty sourdough bread (add some almond extract to egg mixture) & topped with "syrup" made from berries cooked down w/ fruit juice ( & some corn starch to thicken).

  3. Now you need to start a pinterest board with your reviews. I made a "tested and approved" board and if I haven't liked something I deleted it. Wouldn't want to lead others astray. ;) =D

    1. I deleted a few off my board this very morning, thinking the very same thing...No sense aggravating my family & friends :)

    2. Agreed! I have a tried board but I leave my failures on it. Not everyone has the same tastes as me so I figure if I just leave a note about what I didn't like or would change, it may work for someone else.

  5. I hope this means you get to enjoy some mexican with your girls tonight. I'm defrosting some beef as we speak for a taco lunch & sporting a wig of pinterest fail/flop hair. It turned out dry & crunchy with a drop of olive oil & a t. of salt (imagine that ~ ha!) Yes, I'm still talking hair here. Have a perfect gift of a Saturday, feathery flakes & all. :)

  10. totally agree on the banana bread - made it too and just okay. thought it was too strong a honey taste, overpowering the banana goodness that is banana bread!

  13. I made a pinterest chicken wrapped in bacon recipe tonight. I don't like my meat wrapped in more meat, but my husband loved it. Popped in tonight to tell you I happened to be on the makeup aisle at CVS this week needing some concealer. I remembered reading on here you bought and loved Simply Ageless ... I took it home and oh my! That stuff covers good! Four out of four stars for sure.

  18. I'm 100% with ya on the healthy banana bread recipe. I tried it. I'm over it. The photo looked so good. Too bad it didn't taste like the photo looked. Do you have the Betty Crocker Bridal Edition cookbook? I think all of my friends who married in the late 90's early 2000s have it! Anyway, the banana bread recipe is easy and the best I've ever made.

As for the snow...wow! I just ordered a new pair of white shorts today from old navy. I'm gearing up for spring/summer. By the way, I got a 5in inseam because I'm a mom, ya know!?! I read in the reviews that anyone with less than 5in inseam was trying to dress like a 16 yr old, ha! There's something random for a comment, ha!
