General Happiness

Every other day I read a post alternately extolling the virtues of /condemning Pinterest.

"It opens up a whole new world of inspiration!"

"It makes me hate my regular life."

We could put an end to the tired debate if we'd all just come together and spend a little time with Jeremy.

Pinterest brought me this, and for that I will be forever grateful. I cannot tell you how many times homeboy has carried me through a dark hour. You cannot look at him and be in a bad mood. I've tried. I do not know the origins of this photo, and I don't want to know. I want the story to continue to live and thrive within the confines of my own personal noggin. Because in my version, his name is Jeremy, he dabbles prematurely in fantasy novellas and he is not even playing about his unicorn bike.

At some point, Pinterest also reminded me of my beloved Kissing Koolers. I need you back in my life, Cherry Cola Kissing Koolers. I had almost every flavor, but we all know you were #1.

This also feels like the right moment to come clean: I miss my skinny jeans. There. I said it.

                                                               via hey jen renee

I pinned this twice, if that tells you anything about my affinity for note writing. It was all about the fold, people. You don't need me to tell you that. And might I add that LOL means "Lots of Love" in the original Greek?

Oh, help me. This makes me laugh so hard. I can't explain it. No really, I can't explain it. I tried once, to my mom. She stared back at me with a blank look. And she's a cat person. I gave up and found the actual photo for her and she eeked out a small laugh, so apparently the appeal is not genetic.

What does it say about me that I find this endlessly hilarious?

via I have no idea. I tried, but the flickr account no longer exists

In a perfect universe, the nations of handicrafts and rap music would collide every single day.

(I have a latent "thing" for rap music, but we can talk about that another time.)

One of my more recent finds.
So wrong that it really is right.

And I've searched high and low but can't re-trace my steps to this gem:
Beer before liquor, never sicker. Toothpaste before orange juice, dead.

I can't speak to the first part, but the second part filled a hole in my soul that I had never even acknowledged. It's what we call a deep, universal truth. I feel more whole as a person, more fully FPFG, after having that put into words for me. I need to repent for not re-pinning that kind of genius. I should know better by now.

I could go on and on, but the jury is already back with a verdict and they didn't even take a lunch break: Pinterest makes life better.

But just in case you still don't believe me, I'd like to turn it over to my soul sister, Miss Lasagna Soup of the Divine Order of Suppertime.

We rest our case.

Spill your guts: What's the best thing you've found on Pinterest?

  1. it's the food that gets me every time! i love pinterest. And that cat picture may not be genetic but I laughed like crazy cakes the first time I saw and it still give me a chuckle.

  2. I swear on my great grandmama's tin can that she kept her money in.... you are not going to believe this...

I actually, in real life, merged two Pintrest ideas today, and...

FINISHED them! Details coming soon via the blog...

So excited I can barely stand to keep it to myself.

It's amazing what can happen when you actually leave Pintrest and apply what you've learned.

And for the record... I want my Kissing Koolers back too. And my Caboodle. Amen.

  3. One of the funniest things I've seen on pinterest is the note about the fork and spoon's love child. still cracks me up, "He has your hair.

  4. ps sorry about the way that didn't link. My non-sleeping child hit something on the computer.

  5. I am a better person for reading your post. I have seen Jeremy before, and the rap music embroidery hoop ( I had lots of Kissing Coolers... very partial to the Cherry Cola... ) anyhow, the last photo of the groom... I wish I had one of my husband doing that. And the toothpaste before orange juice.... so true. So thank you for this post tonight!

  6. This comment has been removed by the author.

  7. Again, pretty sure we have the same sense of My husband and I died laughing at the cat picture for entirely too long. And the rap lyrics combined with embroidery hoops? Awesome-ness.

  8. Let the haters hate, Pinterest always makes my day.
If it makes you feel any better, I laughedybjead off at the cat picture.

  9. Last night I pinned a tv remote that's in the shape of a wand. You change the channel with a swish and flick. So wish I was kidding.

    Sex-in-a-pan. best. dessert. ever.

A picture of someone who's take 5 pairs of jeans, attached them to their balcony railing, filled em with dirt and added plants. Seriously. So wrong. Right here:

John Fleuvog Gertrude shoes. Pinned them first. Then bought them. Seriously love them.

On a not-so-great note, I tried a homemade hot oil treatment that included honey. I've done them with without honey and loved them. With the honey, not so fab. Just so you know, honey hangs on to our too thin flat tresses and will not let go! It's gross.

  10. I love Pinterest. My husband and I were laughing out loud at this post.

  11. oh... and flipper shoes... wha?!?!? Seriously?!?!? Shut the back door!

  12. oh girl. if only i had myself a unicorn bike. and lasagna soup. especially since i made lasagna tonight and kelly looked at me and plainly said it sucked. i also made some healthy cookie dough balls tonight off of pinterest. they sucked, too. right now i'm on the fence with it... but maybe you've swayed me back in.

  13. Oh the folded notes! I so loved them. I recently taught my 9 year old nephew how to fold those. The cutest part? He was actually excited as in "Oh wow! I just learned something old fashioned but COOL!" and he may or may not have asked if I really did that "in the olden days".

The lipglosses. I'm always grateful that Pinterest helps me to find bits of my past that would otherwise be lost forever.

I LOL at the cat pic. It was an automatic response.

The loom/needlepoint: That sounds 100% to ME like something YOU say, have said and will say.

    Old Timey and Just Right.

Too much to go into, but my Bff and I have a history of talking unicorns, rainbows and all things fine. Thanks for the photo & the enduring happiness it shall bring me/us. I may have to print it out and frame it. If you can find the kid, let me know and I'll ask permission first.

    Best thing on Pinterest:

Well..links to comfy-all-the-time knit ensembles on polyvore. 'Nuff said.

"In writing the story of your life, don't let anyone else hold the pen." Yes, you may have ALL seen this quote, but I find it SO important and something that we all should remember.

This little ditty here below is for me- like the unicorn bike boy is for you. No matter what happens, this will make me snort:

    This man's quirky kid art:

and the below pic, while happy yet heavy always makes me emotional. My mom died of breast cancer in 1991 and back then, no one really talked about it, showed off a bald head or made it seem as if it were beautiful enough to photograph. It also makes me realize that back then, women weren't really meant to feel all that empowered by the experience:

Finally...YES..if we all just spent more time with the Jeremy's of the world, it would certainly shine brighter.

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!

  14. I just saw that ring picture this morning. SO funny. I like the one about being a "jerk whisperer" and also, the food. All of it. Except the super-nutritious, sugar-free. Everything else, I love.

  15. That cat picture had me dying. DYING. Thank you for bringing this into my life.

  16. I just laughed until I cried about the "toothpaste before orange juice" saying. CRYING. My husband thinks I am insane. I do not care. Hilarious!

  17. In my circles, there is all this rage going about how it is so bad to have pinterest accounts because the creators of pinterest are letting you get sued if someone comes to sue....I don't really understand it. I just read the posts, nod my head, and keep it moving.
Moving as I head straight to my account to see what goodness I can pin for the day ; )

  18. I'm currently under the influence of the show "Lie to Me." I'd take a photo of the expression on my face after seeing that last picture, but I don't want to. Euhh…boy. If he has not seen it, Greg Gutfeld needs to see Unicorn boys photo. All right, Jeremy. Whatever. Here's a pin I found for my friend, Cami, who's looking for a real man…and keeps telling me I need to eat more salad.

    : )

    Julie M.

  19. I'm with you. I need my daily dose of Pinterest. Did you make that soup? If you didn't I'm here to tell you that I did.....and it is the BEST. Thanks for such an adorable post :)

  20. Oh my! I have made that lasagna soup several times and it is soooo good! My other addiction thanks to Pinterest are these rolls : Seriously dangerous. Yeast rolls in 30 minutes? Sign me up!

  21. I'm so addiCted. What in the world did we do without? I feel like I need a folder that's for the inappropriate things I find. There are some doozies that I love and I don't pin them.

  22. did you like the lasagna soup? no one at our house was impressed by it... i think it was the massive cheese lump that did us in. we like our lasagna the normal way - spread out & layered in a pan.:)

i've found lots of great art resources, but i don't think i could come up with a favorite anything. there are so many great looking recipes out there, but most of them haven't been keepers. what's up with that?

what really freaks me out about pinterest is when you see someone's account and they have like 92 different boards and 18290 pins. that's scary stuff.

  23. Funniest post yet. I'm off to learn how to embroider...

  24. I've made that lasagna soup and it is da bomb and then some.

I've wanted to tell you a hundred times that everything you pin, I pretty much repin. I'm gonna just start calling my boards Shan-terest. Or somethin' like that.

    Love ya, girl!

  25. oh my ditto-ness. seriously all of those. i think had pinned at least 80%. but here's a question-- in all your simplified starkness does pinterest make you itch/long/pine for those things that number above 7? the food alone kills me a thousand times over. i see it and then i WANT it. and when i say WANT it i mean like i may have sent nate to the store and if that's not an option grown slightly embittered to the poor friend who pinned the object of my desire but did not in fact travel the world to my kitchen to make such a thing.
but all in all it's entirely possible that i have uttered the words 'if you don't like pinterest i am not sure we can be friends'. oh and i tried to sign nate up and he strongly declined my invite. haters gonna hate. ;)

  26. I've caught the T-rex fever. I don't know why, but they crack me up every. single. time.

    Here are some primo examples:

  27. Sewing tutorials, outfits I'd never be able to put together myself and sheer inspiration to try something new. That's what I love about pinterest.

  28. I can't lie. I laughed about the cat and I can't explain it either. One of my favorite things on pinterest was the cookie dough that I made and consumed in very large quantities.
But I also have a board that is full of DIY projects that I love and will probably never try, a board for info I might forget (race locations, consignment sales, etc.) and the list goes on and on. It's the best thing EVER!!!

  29. So funny and so well said - thanks. On MANY occasions, if I am in a bad mood I go the humor section for a pick-me-up, I have to admit my favorites are the text conversations gone wrong between a parent and child - make me laugh out loud funny!

Thanks for clearing up the controversy!
    Take care and many blessings,

  30. I howled for days over the cat picture. I showed it to anybody I could find and some laughed and some did not get it. Almost all the funny cat pictures on Pinterest kill me. I like all the animal pictures, actually.

    Jenny L.

  31. I love all the Hey Girls with Ryan Gosling! Hysterical! This was one of the first things I pinned....
I laughed for days. In fact, just sending this to you sent me into a fit of laughter. Good stuff!
    Here are two more...
    You're welcome :)

    1. I DIED over that one with the girls on the fence, too! Ha ha ha!

  32. my favs are the homeschooling ryan gosling hey girls.
here's my funniness may follow it???

    but the lionel richie poster:

    and this auto correct:

  33. I've always known I was a little abnormal. I have yet to open up the world of Pinterest. I just figure I don't need any new distractions, and I've lived without it my whole life ... but I did get some good laughs at your findings. The cat takes the cake.

  34. Hey! Recipe to the Lasagna Soup. No links? Yea, I speak in short chunky neanderthal sentences. Now I'm off to search for it.

    1. Hey Dixie!
      1. I love your name.
      2. Click on the teeny, tiny "via" under the pic and it will take you right to the recipe! We left out the ricotta part of the "cheesy yum" and just used shredded parm and mozzarella. Delish!

  35. Kissing coolers...where did they go?

    That stitchery is THE BEST!

After resisting for quite a while I finally succumbed to it. I don't pin a lot, only what I'll really make or do. However, like you, I visit regularly for comic relief. And to drool over the food.

  36. Thanks for helping me spend 30 minutes looking for T Rex humor....totally worth it!

  37. Absolutely love the unicorn boy....and yes, I couldn't help but smile everytime I looked at it! I LOVE has brought new crafts, new food & hilarious laughs when I am feeling down.

  38. You are crackin' my business up!! ESPECIALLY the rap needlepoint. Could not stop laughing!! Hilarious. Thank you for that :)

Oh, and the funniest thing I've found on Pinterest was something that said "We are friends, that means if you jump off a bridge I will get a boat and save your stupid behind"...(only it didn't say "behind"...)
    Happy Tuesday!

    Angie from Ohio

  39. Okay I have 4 cats (I am not that crazy cat lady down the block) and I thought the picture was cute but maybe because I've said this to all the cats in my house it was to close to me. Now the groom and groomsman picture made me laugh right out loud.

  40. I'm with you. I have a board called "thanks for the laughs" and have a couple of your above pics already pinned. Must add the cat one. I'm currently sick on the couch, and that pic made my day! Because I am sick on the couch, my homeschooled kids are currently on my Pinterest board titled "websites"....thanks to pinterest they are performing virtual heart surgery! Gotta love the P!

  41. That "Jeremy" pin is one of the very first things I pinned, and is still my favorite! I laughed until I cried when I saw it. The auto-correct phone pins really crack me up, but most of them make me feel like I'm being naughty when I read them. I share your love of the note pin, but I'm bothered by the lack of a pull-tab on the fold! :)

  42. I love Pinterest, and my favourites are the FOOD! I now have a board specifically for all the "recipes" we liked and will make again. Now, I must try that lasagna soup, it looks delicious!
Thanks for the laughs this morning, I needed them...especially the cat one, since I am a cat lover!

  43. This quote, which perfectly captures my relationship with my sister:
"You and I are sisters. Always remember that if you fall, I will pick you up....after I finish laughing." And this quote, which perfectly captures my relationship to cleaning: "I just spent 1.5 hours cleaning this kitchen. If you mess it up, I will cut you. Love, Mom."

I laugh everytime I see those pins. Holy cow. And your cat pin? Classic.

This is possibly one of the most important pieces of literature ever written.

    1. do you think that letter was real? If so, I wish I knew that kid.

  45. Okay, so we are Pinterest soul mates. I belly laughed at every single thing that you posted. Aaand I made lasagna soup 2 nights ago :)

  46. The spicy ranch crackers...I crave those things! But use the hint of salt crackers or it will be too salty, unless you like that sort of thing.

  47. I'm not a pinterest girl, but I have to say the pic of the notes made me laugh. I have all my Jr high school notes stored away in my old Jordash Jeans purse (and yes, it IS all about the fold) So fun to look back and see what world ending crisis was happening back then.
    Thanks for the laugh :0)

  48. I don't have a Pinterest yet, but I've linked to a few of these and I will NOT be able to resist much longer...Kissing Coolers helped make me who I am today. (They did not get me kissed, but still. I was ready.)

LOL in the original greek?! Funniest thing I've heard in forever... :)

  49. I love pinterest! Yes I have a list a mile long of things I want to do, but I don't feel bad about it, I feel excited with all the options!

  50. oh how I love your mind. I giggled through this whole post! Lots of Love to Jeremy!
Also, I forgot all about kissing koolers!!!
off to share all these photos!

  51. I wish we lived closer. Like neighbors close...the kind who visit each others' porch swings at night and gab about nothingness & let the kids run wild in the back yard. You crack me up.

p.s. I don't own a porch swing. But if we were neighbors, I totally would have to break down and get one.

  52. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So awesome!!!!

  53. Hahaha now THIS is refreshing!! Geez pretty soon we won't be allowed to have any vices.

  54. i'm pretty sure we'd be friends in real life. can we? i had a dream the other night we met and it was more fun than i could ever imagine. i love everything pinterest has to offer, and that cat photo and jeremy get me every time. (i have almost the exact same story about jeremy in my head. i'm pretty sure we're right. and i can't explain the cat either. it just is hilarious.) i love the food ideas on pinterest. and the party ideas. and clothing inspiration, though i really should try the seven things thing. i also love all the awesome memories it brings back, like the notes passed in middle and high school. i've saved all mine. i love the creativity pinterest inspires, whether it's my to-do list or rap lyrics embroidered among flowers.

  55. Oh my gosh, I laughed out loud a few times here. Thanks for the Pinterest treats! I think I need to follow you in Pinterest too...

  56. Love all of these...and I just knew that was a nod to jay z from your "I've got 99 problems" post ;) and I loved it!!!

My favorite pin this week is...

    Dear face wash commercials,

Nobody actually splashes their face with water like that.

My bathroom is sopping wet now.

    Have a great week!!!

  57. "you're not my real mom" hahahhahahaha

    omg. I'm dying.

I DO get the "I can't go there because it makes me hate my real life" because I had to stop looking at decorating blogs for that reason. I just don't have the goods to make my house look anything close. And also my kid looks like a hobbit again. Such is life.

  58. you just made my day.

  59. Every bit of this makes me happy, girl. That Jeremy especially. Ride on, J.

  60. someone posted an autocorrect post about Motts Apple Sauce that really cracked me up. Good stuff. Any forum that tends to inspire and make one laugh can't be a bad thing. Right? Except it sucks up hours and spits them back at you. But other than that. . .

  61. Hi! I'm a recent lurker.... now need to confess that I more than giggled (sorry but the whole 'lol' thing has totally ruined 'laugh out loud' for me!) at the cat. Totally got it. And.... where have your skinny jeans gone?
Love your blog. Thank you. :)

  62. So glad I read this in the morning. This just made my DAY. HILARIOUS. Pinterest is such an interesting evil. It's helped my really think about my STYLE, but also, this. Hilarity. All the time.

  63. Haters gonna hate.
I'm a Heather Hendrick blog follower since forever and found you through her and my big sister's recommendation about a month ago.

    Couple things.

    1. Jeremy is getting book marked for bad days.
    2. When I watched the very poor quality video of my senior class play (circa nineteen ninety nevah) at 18 years old I saw for the first time on VHS that I do not, in fact, have hands. I have seal flippers. "Meet me in St. Louis"? Hardly. Try, "Sharon's the next act at sea world." I love your claw.
    3. I read your blogpost to my hubs in bed this morning. It was so funny I didn't even care that I had morning breath cuz Jeremy isn't even playing about his unicorn bike.

    Nice to blog meet you-
    Sharon in Malaysia

  64. Not helping the prego cravings! Just sayin'.

  65. i heart all of your posts & no matter the topic it always seems like it's exactly what i needed to see/read at that moment. kid on unicorn bike=new background pic. handstiching rap lyrics onto one of those things grandmas hang everywhere(??)=heading to joann's right now. i cannot stop smelling kissing coolers in my mind- thank you for making my entire day.

  66. I adore Pinterest but I love it even more after reading this post. That unicorn bike is too funny.

  67. oh my, with the soup. and jeremy has officially redeemed my day.

  68. Have to say I worried a bit staring with Pinterest that maybe it would make me not satisfied with what I had, full of envy. Instead it has brought me inspiration and happiness in making things better. It has not made me covet or want what I cannot have or do not need (Ok, occasionally it makes me want something I do not need...but not usually). It makes me smile and laugh. At first I spent a bit too much time pinning but have found a good balance now. It's a good place for a gal with a lot of ideas in her head to store them all - for free : ) Thanks for the added smile of Mr. Unicorn bike. I won't soon forget him!

  69. oh girl, whenever I finally get off of Pinterest and finally blog I pretty much just talk about pinterest, but I do love and hate it, so there's that.

I couldn't pick my favorite pin more than I could my favorite kid, oh but there was this one a picture of a text conversation about cats, here it is:

I actually cried till it hurt and it turned my whole day around so maybe I do just love it!

Oh and pinterest put me in touch with good stuff! :)

  70. I'm dying!!! The "haters gonna hate" gets me every time. I've never seen the cross stitch. Why do I always know the references to gansta rap? Oh, well. Thanks for the good laugh! I'm going to repin the cross stitch right now.

  71. HAHA...I saw the "haters gonna hate" too. Man, I want a unicorn bike.
