Bloom :: A Giveaway

My friend Jeanne Oliver has offered five FPFG readers *FREE* membership to her upcoming 4-week Creative Made e-course.

{Some of the art featured and taught throughout the class.}
In this four week journey art will be your companion to help you remember what you were made for all along.

Week One-Accepting the gifts you were given
Week Two- Perspective changes everything
Week Three-Growing your gifts
Week Four- Letting Go
(Taken with permission from Jeanne Oliver's site.)

Jeanne is an artist to the core. Everything she touches becomes a thing of beauty and style. (Also, she cracks me up sometimes.) The class launches on January 9th and all participants must be signed up by that date, but you will have the freedom to complete the classes over the course of three months, at your convenience.

I was so honored that Jeanne offered this opportunity to you, some of my favorite people. I adore the theme of her class. Each one of us has gifts as unique as the ridges on our thumbs. I'm passionate about each of us really understanding what those gifts are and how we can being to change the world with them.

If you are interested in a free slot in the class, just leave a comment telling me the best birthday gift you've ever received. I will randomly select 5 winners on Friday, January 6th.

Oh, and I'm going to want to hear all about what you learn, you Lucky Ducks.

  1. Honestly the handmade gifts I get from my boys are the best!! I can go out anytime and buy something for myself but when I get something that they worked on just for ME?!?! THE BEST!

  3. Best birthday gift ever? The pressure. I don't think I can choose. How can you do this to me after we just talked about this? Uggh. Seriously. The day I've had, and now this. I might implode.
Last year's birthday was pretty marvelous. My Prince took me to Cancun on a business trip over my birthday. He worked and I played. W.O.W. Also, the kids made me an awesome happy birthday sign from home and posted it to my fb account. I felt so loved. It was a good thing.
Ok, I'm going to go with that. Crisis averted for now. I hope I win. I need to win at something. Pleeeeeease?

  4. For my 40th, my husband gave me a trip to Paris! We are going in June. (FYI he travels all over the world for work and we are using his frequent flyer miles.)

Love Jeanne and would love her class!

  5. can it be a christmas gift? because if it can, it would be a gift card i got to old navy from a sweet gal. OR, the new car that someone showed up with on our doorstep Christmas morning (can you even believe this?! God's provision is so gracious).

but maybe that's cheating. so, i'll choose a birthday gift. kelly, when we were engaged, framed some pretty pictures of us for my present. it was sweet and heartfelt and better than any mass of money he coulda spent.

    thanks for this sweeeet giveaway.

  6. I would love to take Jeanne's class.

My best birthday present ever was going to Washington, D.C. to visit my litter sister after her successful kidney transplant. Who could ask for anything better. I was able to spend five more precious years with my little sister as the result of this transplant.

  7. My best birthday present was a picture book that my kids made me. It had photos that each of them picked out of them with me, that represented their favorite memories of "us" together. Then they made a birthday card to go with it. It was the best gift I have ever received, because it was all about what was important to them and through their eyes!
Thank you for sharing again...AMAZING GIFTS you give to us!!!

No Pearl Jam concert, no trip to Cancun or Paris - oh no - I got the best birthday present ever - it was a GALLON jug of Mod Podge! I laughed and cried with joy!

  9. When I turned 10 my parents gave me horse-riding lessons. The gift was for 5 lessons, but I took lessons for 10 years and my sweet non-animal-loving mom accompanied me to each one, plus spent countless hours in horse barns and/or listening to me talk about my riding lessons. I am sure there are a MILLION things she would have rather done. She is truly selfless, and such a picture of Jesus' grace!

  10. Oh my gosh I want to take this class!!

Best birthday gift... hmm.... when I turned 12 I woke up and looked out my 2nd story bedroom window to find that someone had secretly mowed "Happy Birthday Mary Susan" in the grass. It took so much time and skill that it meant so much that everyone had worked together to do something so fun! It was one of the best gifts ever AND it was free!

  11. My best birthday gift ever was my son! I found out I was pregnant with him 4 days after my 26th birthday. He was a surprise too! I think this is an awesome giveaway. She is also beautiful and darling. :) I hope I win! hehe

  12. I love Jeanne's style! What a great giveaway! My favorite birthday gift is probably a set of ceramic chicks that my children picked out or me several years ago.

  14. Fingers crossed!!! Love her art!!! I don't believe I have received my bestest birthday gift yet. But I'm holding out. My son and daughter-in-law let me know over 5-months ago, that my third grandson is due on my birthday, April 4th. Maybe he will, maybe he won't, but it's going to be pretty good April. :) Thanks for the chance...

  15. My very favorite birthday gift was a surprise 30th birthday party. What better gift, than all the people I love in be place? Nothin' I tell ya!

    ReplyDelete
  16. This sounds fantastic and beautiful! I have really been struggling lately with figuring out my place in the world and what I'm good at and what I can sure.
My favorite birthday gift was just last birthday, my husband bought me a very simple silver key necklace, it is just so perfectly me and I love that he picked it out all by himself :)

  17. Best birthday gift ever? The year that my fiance' (now husband of 8 years!) and my Dad sent me to Ireland for the wedding of my friends. My Dad handed me a card with a poem he created that announced the trip. They made all the arrangements, lined up passports, even got time of with my boss.

I was shocked. The whole family, on both sides, had known for months. i.had.no.clue. and boy did I cry!

  18. One of my best birthday gift memories is a set of kid's golf clubs my grandfather gave me. After cake we proceeded into the backyard for golf lessons. I never became a pro, but I treasure the moments with my Poppy.

  19. Neato! One of my best birthday gifts was from the hubster; I'd once told him that I'd always wanted a charm bracelet in school and never got one. He got me one for my 50th with a birthday cake charm and has added charms for each grandchild that arrives. I love looking for vintage charms when we vacation.

  20. My best birthday gift ~ Nana's homemade dinners. My mom drives over and cooks dinner for my family. Not only is it some of my favorite food, but it means that I don't have to figure out what is for dinner. Nothing better.

  21. I got pregnant with my almost 12yo son on my 25th birthday. And, yes, I know for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would LOVE to take this class! The best birthday gift I've ever received was probably a plane ticket to go visit my grandfather one Christmas. It was my last time seeing him, as he was ill and passed away one month after my visit. It was a very, very special gift...to say the least.

  24. what fun!!! hmm...favorite birthday gift...it would have to be the year before last's surprise party the teens in our youth group threw for me. Complete with homemade banners and homemade cake and they even CLEANED MY HOUSE !! say what!

    ReplyDelete
  25. My sixteenth birthday - mom surprised me with a birthday party. Since I didn't like surprises I ran to the back of the house and hid in the bathroom. She admonished me to "get out there right now and start tending to your guests!". Little did I know then how my life would fill with surprises and people, adventure and a fair amount of "tending to". Mom always knew what I needed and when I needed it.

  26. Favourite birthday gift?... and no... I did not spell favourite wrong. It's the Canadian favourite. We fancy things up a bit over here.

    Where was I?

My favourite gift was an antique ring that opens up and allows me to put a picture of my family. It was used for pills or something sniffy I guess.

  27. On my 7th birthday my parents gave me (and my 3 sisters) a baby brother! The best part of that day was that I got a bakery birthday cake (we always had homemade cakes, so this was VERY special) and the neighbors took me to Simpson's Pony Farm (my FAVORITE place on Earth at that time!) where I rode my favorite pony. Later in life I learned what a true gift my brother is!

  28. When I was 8, I was as horse-crazy as a young girl could possibly be. Completely and utterly enamored with all things equestrian, I dreamt about owning one, riding it endlessly, and I had a list of potential horse names six pages long. I didn't own a horse, didn't know anyone who did, and my family's circumstances didn't even come close to allowing for that. For my birthday that year, my uncle gave me a proper black velvet riding helmet.
I was never able to use it for its intended purpose, and I think my 8 year old self, deep down, knew that would be the case, but I loved it so much because it represented hope and possibilities and dreams that might some day really come true.
I've had fifty birthdays, and that helmet has always been my favorite gift.

  30. Oh that sounds so fun! I would love to do this.
My best birthday gift was a refrigerator box my father brought home from work for my 6th birthday party. My little friends and I made it into a house/church/school and it provided hours and hours of entertainment. I'm sure they got me a "real" gift that year too but that is what I remember!

    Thanks for the giveaway:)

  31. My best birthday present was when my husband and I were dating and he gave me an Ohio State hoodie. It was the first gift he ever gave me. Little did I know that 7 months later, I would be leaving my Tennessee town, getting married and moving to his small town in Ohio where he grew up.

  32. I've had so many great birthday presents! To think of just one? Maybe the ring jacket for my diamond from my husband. Now that I think about it that may have been a Valentine's gift...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Really, the first thing that came to mind was a backpack a good friend of mine gave me right before I went off the college. As lame as that may sound...it was the most thoughtful and unexpected birthday gift I've ever received.

    ReplyDelete
  34. My best birthday gift was the birth of my first son. He was supposed to be a St. Paddy's Day baby but came early. :-)

  35. I love all things Jeanne Oliver. This would be wonderful! Best birthday gift would have to be the gift of "time". Last year I turned 40 (yikes!) and I took the day off and spend the day all to myself. That time with me was precious. I indulged in some shopping and spent birthday money I was given but best of all was the time I had to spend all to myself. Fun!

  36. love this giveaway.

Favorite gift...yikes, kinda hard to pin one down. But i'll go with my 10th birthday - a puppy!

  37. After 18 years of marriage and many difficult and very poor times, for my 40th birthday my husband gave me diamond earrings. The box was huge (an appliance box), wrapped in orange polka dot paper (my favourite colour!), when I opened the lid a huge bunch of orange helium filled balloons floated upward and there was a tiny jewellers box attached. Amazing!

  38. This class would fit perfectly with my new year goal of doing more creative things! Favorite gift was probably a stuffed white duck for my 7th birthday that became a "lovie."

  39. I am so IN! This looks amazing and I'm just now at a place where I think I'd have the time to do this. I'm so glad you shared this opportunity with us. My best birthday present? I honestly don't know. But one of my most special and memorable presents was 6 years ago on Valentine's Day. It was an awful time in my life. Awful. Tragic, actually. I'd browsed a local boutique in a feeble effort at escapism and found the loveliest BCBG jacket. Though on sale, it was still seriously pricey. I'd mentioned it in passing to my mom because I'd seen the jacket on a What Not to Wear? episode we'd watched together. She bought it for me. It's one of those things I'll never part with. : )

  40. During my sophomore year of college, all of my roommates (whom I thought had gone home for the weekend and forgotten my birthday) spent hours putting together the most amazing scavenger hunt that began on campus and ended in downtown Greenville, SC (where I live and went to school). The last clue was handed to me by my best friend from high school, who they had contacted and gotten involved. The clue led me to a small picnic area where I was met with the most wonderful and hilarious rendition of "My Girl", complete with homemade props (a sun and clouds) and choreography.

  43. Great giveaway! Best Bday gift -- I lived in Dallas, TX was grown and married. My parents and sister and family were in Indiana where I grew up. Exactly on my birthday a box arrived from my Mom. In it was her famous homemade angelfood cake and a container of homemade frosting and a card with the sugary birthday letters. Just like she had done for my birthday my entire childhood. I cried from the emotion and memories then called my friends and we assembled the cake and it was the absolutely best ever. Love your blog --- Marilyn

  49. My most favorite birthday gift came on my 40th birthday, it was a gift certificate for watercolor classes at the Cleveland Institute of Art. All of my girlfriends pitched in for it. I am turning 50 this month and can't think of a better way to celebrate it!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Best birthday gift was probably the trip to the Grand Canyon to celebrate my 50th. We hiked down in the day before my birthday and on my birthday, Doug stuck a candle in my pancake, they turned out the lights and everyone in the dining room sang to me. Then we hiked out of the canyon. I thought "bummer, I'm 50." Then I thought "but I'm hiking the canyon!" Pretty cool. xo, Cheryl

  52. A sweet 16 Suprise Birthday Party!! After 15 years of my parents forgetting my birthday or not making a big deal of birthdays it was wonderful. My friends all played parts keeping it a secret and SO MANY of my them showed up. I felt like the queen of the day :)

  53. My best birthday gift ever was from some of my besties in high school for my 18th birthday. One of the girls bought a dollar store journal - you know the kind with the crazy looking kittens cavorting in a tea cup on it. Then she passed that journal around to everyone of my friends amd their mom's and my mom, and sister and my grandma's and each of them wrote me a letter in that journal. Here it is almost 20 years later and that journal is still one of my treasured possessions because of the words written in it by the people I love. When I'm blue or sad, hopeless or down on myself I pull it out and read the beautiful things that they wrote for me. If I ever have a daughter I'm going to do the same thing for her for her 18th birthday. Isn't it amazing that the gifts we cherish the most are the ones that didn't cost a lot of money?

  54. I normally am not a thing person, but for my 40th my husband got me a bracelet that says faith, home and love with a cross, an anchor and a heart. I still have it almost 10 years later and wear it all the time. So much so that we had to have the rings redone (which costs almost as much as a new bracelet). I love it, because it was from him and it reminds me of what is so important in life.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't even know how old I was, but I remember the special surprise party and a gift from a special aunt - a simple coloring book and new crayons. Everyone was hiding and jumped out as we came in the door. I was somewhere between 3 and 5 years old. Sweet memory.

    ReplyDelete
  56. For my 60th I got tickets to go see Mickey Mouse's Live Magic Show. Four tickets.....one for my BFF that loves Mickey more than anyone and two for my granddaughters. We set in the nose bleed section all alone and loved it. One of my granddaughters just had eye surgery and looked like she had pink eye. She wore some snazzy pink glittery sn glasses. We had several little things happen that had us laughing all day. It was so much fun for an ole lady like me.

  60. I am a New Years Eve baby. Can you say, Party all night long...my husband dreaded my birthdays. Good thing I have grown up and can stay home now for my birthdays. The best present ever, was when my Mom gifted me her 1950's leather, fringe, and fur coat. I love that sucker...of course, living in Az means I can only wear it a few times in the winter, but I feel so sexy when I do wear it. Here's to feeling sexy in a leather coat. Happy New Year...

  61. Gosh I don't know …I think my favorite was when I turned sixteen and I wanted a new Bible. My mom took me to the store and I picked out the translation I wanted. My name was engraved on it. It is completely my Bible. I am 44 now so when I read an area I highlighted as a young woman, it takes my back to different times in my life.

  63. Wow, what an amazing giveaway! My favorite birthday present ever is actually the year my daughter turned two. We actually literally forgot my birthday, because she had been very sick was in the hospital, and it wasn't until two days after we brought her home, that I realized my birthday had passed. It was quite funny, once the scariness of my daughter's illness had passed!! I just thought about bringing my baby home healthy, and how wonderful it was for her to be fine and happy and boisterous again. And that THAT was the best present I possibly could have ever received!!! Thank you for the chance to win the giveaway. I love reading your blog! You are such an encouragement. :)

  65. Nice idea for a giveaway. My favorite birthday gift was from my husband's great uncle. He gave me a picture of the family farm where my dad grew up. His parents (my husband's great grandparents) had rented the farm before my dad's family bought it and they had a professional photograph of the farm. It hung in their home and when I met my husband we were amazed to know that my grandparents knew his great grandparents. (all were at that time deceased) When his great uncle gave that gift to me on my birtday after we were married several years, I cried...what a special gift!

Seriously....every other birthday after that one was my best!!! And this year would really be my best if I won this giveaway!!!

  70. I really can't believe I'm saying this "out loud," but my no good, rotten ex-husband gave me my best birthday present. It was a charm bracelet. I had mentioned it in passing that I would like one. Not only were the charms darling, he wrote a poem that was just as darling that discussed the significance of each charm. The whole dang thing was probably someone else's idea, forged, probably stole the bracelet, too. But I loved it!

And that is the truly unforgetable gift from some pretty special parents.

Hubby had heard me say I wanted one, and took it upon himself to acutally listen and get it. At first I was like, "Oh, um, thanks..." BUT, and there is a but, when I used it I was thrilled that my carpets cleaned up so well. Then I cleaned everything! I know, lame, but true!! PICK ME!!!!

  81. Oh, I would so love to win. At the risk of sounding a little crazy I will share my favorite gift. When I was a toddler my father left our family (my mother and her 13 children) for another woman and another life. I grew up not knowing him well and maybe seeing him briefly once a year, or less. But... most birthdays he would send a card, with my name spelled wrong, and a gift card to Target. It was really a pretty thoughtless gift for a child that you left behind but something about it meant so much to me. It was the one thing I had to show that he cared, even if he just cared a little, at least he cared.

  82. Ok. My best b-day gift was this year from my husband. He bought me my favorite scent lotion and soap. He doesn't like to shop for people It's his most least favorite thing to do. He was thinking of me.

This year, we'll be back home in Oregon after a long time of living away, with family, a regular 'ol Wednesday work day, nothing special but also so incredibly special to be in a beautiful place, surrounded by my favorite people. Can't think of anything else I'd rather have. Just being with the three little ones that make me laugh every day and roll my eyes and even cry in frustration once in awhile, and the man that stands beside me in this crazy life-journey. And maybe some cake. Cake would be rad. :)
