From Calvin's Lens

Calvin wants to be like his Daddy when he grows up.

Scratch that, he wants to be like him right now.

(He's pretty smart like that.)

One of the things he said that he would like for Christmas is a "real" camera.

As luck would have it, we happened to have a "real" camera burning a hole in Cory's unmentionables drawer! It was our old point-and-shoot from several years ago and it needed a little tweak and a little shine, but we boxed that baby up, but quick. (Shhh!)

Fast forward.

A couple of weeks ago we had some friends over for an impromptu lunch on a Sunday afternoon.

I had no idea Calvin was going all rogue-paparazzo on us, but then again, I'm a bit immune to that sort of thing.

He had two fetching muses.

He didn't dare inhibit their freedom of expression.

I cannot adequately express how it pleased this Mama to see that he attempted a close-up of an inanimate object. The fact that it relates to fashion is really just the frosting on the cake.

Homeboy busted out some tutu-action shots.

And I don't know about you, but I totally appreciate the artistic juxtaposition of the two Bridal Barbies with the muses. It's so...so...alive. It makes me feel something, man.

Later, he took the party outdoors, for a little posed Senior Picture photography.

(I cannot believe they went along with this!)

In the end, it was his lone self-portrait that had my heart all busted up.

I could be wrong, but I think my boy may be smitten...

  6. The senior portraits are hilarity. Seriously, my Q and your Cal would LOVE each other. Q has been asking for a camera for his birthday/christmas. Really, whatever day, as long as he gets one.

I love Ruby's pose on the rock. She's a rockstar. Your kids are hilarious. Could I say hilarious more? Probably. But, I'll spare you. You get the point.

  12. These are great for his age--goodness! Bet you're glad for this new fangled cameras---remember back when we all had our first camera and took 50 gazillion pictures of a squirrel climbing a tree....and then our parents ended up having to pay to develop them.....good golly! :) Seems like Calvin's going to have plenty of life to capture via the lens! :)

  23. So cute! I did this when I was a kid with one of those 35mm, skinny rectangular 80s cameras. When I had the film developed, it was all photos of neighbors’ flower beds, rocks, trees, and my sisters being forced to prop their elbows at awkward angles. Calvin’s work is a serious step up! The kid’s got promise.

  29. I so love this post!

What an adorable little young man! I LOL at the Barbies and I found myself wondering "Did he actually ask them to pose like that for the senior pics?" Too funny.

This reminds me of my little sister and me back in the 80's. We took a lot of pictures of one another, our barbies, posters of fuzzy animals in our room and...I dressed her up in visors and rain jackets. Very fashionable!

Thanks for making me smile today!
