Saturday Freeze

We woke up in the wee hours of morning to no heat.

It is 5 degrees outside. 50 degrees warmer inside.

I use the word "warmer" loosely.

We ate chocolate waffles by the glow of the space heater.

A man with a very Amish-sounding name is on his way to save us.

It's all good.

And it's even better, because I'm going on a date today with a certain CMB.

I have Colin Firth and carbs in my immediate future.

This just in: Mr. Amish is on the phone.

Cory said to him, "It blows..."

("...it just doesn't heat")

There was a very exaggerated pause between those two statements.

It cracked me up.

Perhaps because my good sense is frozen.

And I’m in need of more carbs.

With a side of Colin Firth

all it takes is not having heat...to know that you haven't got heat!...it is physically cold and then you start thinking about it too much. hope mr amish makes warm blowing...

  3. Sorry about the lack of heat. That's dreadful! Have fun on your hot date! Please do give us a review of that movie! I've heard good things about it but would love to hear what you think. I am of course assuming you're going to see The King's Speech but you know what sometimes happens when one assumes...

  4. Coveting your night out with carbs and Colin. the first year the beloved Swede and I were married, our chimney was condemned by the local building inspector and we had to tear it down. We spent our first winter with a hole in the front of our tiny house, stuffed with insulation and covered with black plastic. We kept the thermostat at 55 ALL WINTER LONG, otherwise we just would have been pumping heat out through said hole in the house. Ah, memories of being young and in love! And very, very cold.

  7. Hope your heating up over there! Our furnace went out in the middle of a snowstorm. Fortunately we had just installed a gas stove! Why can't these things happen in the summer time?

  8. So sorry to hear you are cold, that is the worst part about loosing power in our neck of the woods. We freeze, and we tend to loose power A LOT!!! I am glad you will be warm again soon. Enjoy your date with your hubbs, I love that you take time to do that on a regular basis!!

  21. We are sitting here in cold Ohio watching our furnace. It seemed to slip below where we had the thermostat is set. My husband is paniked. I sure hope yours gets fixed. It's too cold out for it to be broken.
Such cute pictures of your sweet kids. Have fun on your date.

  22. Oh girl that is so weird! Our furnace went out recently too. It was just blowing too...and grinding every now and then...HA! Have fun with your CMB and carbs.

  23. We once had our furnace go out on Christmas Eve. We weathered it with a fire and that Christmas morning {it was 15 degrees outside} we unwrapped presents with mittens on. It tuned out to be one of our best Christmas' ever!

I do hope you get everything in order and enjoy your movie! :-)

    XO,
    Janie

  24. Tell me all about that movie!!! I am dying to see it and have no babysitters so I'll live vicariously through you.

Hope date night was fun. And really hope you got your heater fixed! lol :)

  25. Ha! I get it! Have fun on your date...Date, what's that? Oh, I remember, those things my husband and I went on before kids ;) Our furnace did what yours did in the middle of winter a few years ago. It wasn't nearly as bad since we live in Texas. You handled it with a better sense of humor than I did. Hope you enjoyed your date, carbs and Colin Firth!

  26. Ha! That's hilarious.
Just wanted to let you know that I made your felt garland for a baby shower today. It turned out so cute and everyone wanted to know where the idea came from and how to do it! Thanks for the great craft ideas, Girl!

  28. I feel like I am following Lissa and Becky around on every blog they read, lol. What can I say they have good taste, but the odds of every one of our furnaces going out this winter is a little strange. Thankfully we had ours fixed! You are the coolest and truest homegirl! Thanks for keeping it real!

  29. oooh - recently was there myself - with no heat (and no Colin Firth).... hope you have both now!

  30. OH No Girl - i sure hate that about your heater!!! I hope MR. Amish was able to come in and get it fixed, on the cheap! My heater guy was here last week to inform me "well ma'am, looks like, well, you really just, well, you need a new one". Oh fabulous! haha. hope your situation is NOTHING of the same!! Hang in there. Boy does the devil throw some wrenches in our financial plans sometimes doesn't he?!? Blah!

  31. Date? Oh...I almost forgot what those were...man, I've got to get out again b/c I thought the conversation w/ the Amish heater man was funny, too. And I wasn't even there. Sad.

  32. We had no heat either one night this week - while 10 inches of snow was falling outside. Makes you appreciate that heat and those that don't have much of it, doesn't it?
PS Those little smiles...cute cute cute!

  34. I had a very clever comment all written out two days ago about Cute Maintenance Boy and Cute Mr. Darcy Boy or something along those lines, but my Mac computer wouldn't let me leave a comment....something about being a cookie enabler, and now that I have my PC back and can finally leave a comment the clever moment is gone never to be seen again.
Hope your date was a hawt one, Farmgirl.

  36. Hmm. . .sound like my apartment Friday night. We went out and did errands and by chance picked up a space heater for a extra room on clearance. Got home and had to pug it in right away. It was negative something outside. Inside 55. Was so not impressed. Plus side the space heater works great.
