Flower Patch Farmfamily Pics

I have this friend. Her name is Teresa, but Ruby calls her Atresha and I call her Benji or T-Bone or Benny Ha Ha. Same diff.

She lives three connections away, but she came to visit me in September.

I twisted her arm into taking some family photos for us while she was here.

I did not have outfits planned. I did not have appropriate shoes for Sweet Cheeks. I forgot to feed my kids dinner. I took so long to figure out wardrobe that our sunlight was cut short.

And still?

She conjured up some lovely for us.

Homegirl showed us and the universe who was boss. If you found Julia Child and pried the dutch oven from her enormous hands, replacing it with a Fancy Canon, you'd have T-Rex. She's charming and largely self-taught and twirls magic out of thin air like spun sugar at the carnival.

Can you tell I'm happy with the photos?

This one is my favorite.

On second thought, this one.

I like to call this one, "The Farmer Takes a Wife".

I don't know why, I just do. Even though Cory's not a farmer and we don't even look especially farmerish here and heck, this one wasn't even taken at our farm. But I am his wife, and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Incidentally, the two shirts I'm wearing in this shot just so happen to be the very shirts that narrowly escaped a disastrous fate on the platform of the Gary South Shore. {shudder}

Oooh! This one is my favorite!

I will miss you, rock wall and tumble-down hill and barn-too-dangerous-to-trespass.

Have I ever introduced you to my boys?

They're the cat's pajamas.

I believe this was taken while I was still inside, buried beneath a medium-sized mountain of small, not-quite-right boots and shoes. Shortly thereafter, we forced a wardrobe change on the two biggest dudes. They rolled with it. I think they saw a glint of crazy in T's eyes.

Step. Away. From. The. Crazy.

Benj was to Pie Pot like a snake-charmer to a cobra.

He was transfixed and angelic.

I'm pretty sure she didn't believe me that he's a danged difficult baby sometimes.

Hate when that happens.

What you wouldn't know on your own, is that it was half-past dusk when this shot was taken. I think she uses a special voodoo camera. If only the special voodoo camera could feed little people dinner...

This was one of the last shots of the night and it really is my very favorite. Ruby rocks my world here. Classic Her.

Although, I don't know, I'm pretty partial to this one, too.

But this one? This one is my most favorite of all.

Or maybe it's this one.

Or this one.

glad your trip to chicago worked out and your bag turned up. i think if it was on the platform at the chicago end, it probably would have been long gone. my mom and i had such an experience with a shopping bag full of recently acquired loot. gone but not forgotten...

  16. Look at your cute little family! All of those pictures turned out great!

(on a side note: I'm at my parents house today because our heater decided to up & die on the coldest day we've had so far this fall and for some reason my mom has People magazine. I was flipping through it and saw a blurb about the filming of The Help, coming out next year. It made me think of you. :))

  32. Before I forget, I love the pictures. I love them all. I chose a favorite, and then another, and another, and another. How can I have a favorite picture of people I really don't even know? I don't know, but I know that I do. I have several, in fact. Well, fine then, all of them. You all rocked those pics like the fourth of July in the south.

I myself set up family pictures months ago to be taken last Sunday. Alas, it was not meant to be. That's what I get for trying to guess the timing of God. I thought our little princess would be here by last Sunday. As it turns out, our foster care license came in on Tuesday of this week. In true providential form, I cancelled our photo session with our Anna the week before, since at that point we didn't even have our license, much less a baby. Poor Anna woke up on Sunday morning with the flu. The pictures would have been a no go either way. I guess God probably knew that in advance too. We are still waiting for the arrival of the princess.

By the way, I love that you visited my blog. To let you in on our secret, we do have a baby coming any day now. However, due to confidentiality laws with the agency we will not post it on the blog. There will be from time to time some hints here and there, so keep an eye out and some tiny feet I'm sure you'll eventually see.

I love your blog. Thanks for sharing.

  37. your love for your people shines! it's inspiring. We all know that our kids can be....challenging, but there is something about a simple photo(it never throws a tantrum) that makes your love overflow.
YOu know, that this sweet stage is temporary and even in 10 minutes that moment will have passed you by, but you will still have that image. frozen in time.
    thanks for sharing.

    B. Dinner schminner.
    C. I have something for you. I'll mail it out right away. I would have mailed it today, except it was Veteran's Day, but I'll get right on it. I don't like to delay with these kinds of things. I'd mail it tomorrow, but it's Friday, and we all know about mailing things on Fridays. It's not politically correct.
    D. You're sweet.
    E. I miss you.

I LOVE that you know her, I suppose that is probably how I started reading her blog, because it's saved right next to yours in my bookmarks. (I bookmark most blogs rather than follow, because I really like visiting and looking around :P) Anyway, she is something special. So glad she captured these beautiful images of your family. 63. I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite myself. But those close-ups of the kids are terrific. As is your jean skirt. Mind sharing where you found it? I've been looking and looking (online, admittedly) and can't seem to find anything.)

  66. I LOVED these photos!!! Sorry I haven't commented sooner! I'm behind. But, I loved them! Teresa did a great job. I have to say that seeing that Amoco sign cracked me up. Ask Cory about it...I distinctly recall the ribbing he gave me when I pronounced it Am-oh-ko. He will never let me live it down.
