The sun crept higher, illuminating the drear, reflecting the brightest version of dull. The sweatshirt was traded in for a long sleeved knit, which was traded in for a run-of-the-mill t-shirt. As the layers took flight, the windows inched up, breathing life and possibility into these walls.
This is the kind of air that inspires action. I will clean my entire house today! I will go for a walk! I will make something entirely satisfying for dinner!
The verdict is still out on exactly what this day holds. Perhaps, at its end, I will burrow into medium-weight blankets nourished and stretched, in a home sparkling clean. Or maybe I will simply lose myself in air tempered so plum-perfectly as to render it an afterthought.
I adore this in-between. Rising to the promise of autumn, being swept into the deliciously brief bite of late summer, then mellowing with the lavender sun into skies that darken at just the right time.

i feel the exact same way today, but you said it soooo much better.
ReplyDeleteahhhh, you have such a way with words. i can just feel what you are feeling, see what you are seeing :) woke up ourselves to cool rain and felt that same almost fall-ness. can't wait!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said!!!
ReplyDeletesounds so perfect!
ReplyDeleteHow I wish I was at home experiencing everything you said. I have been truly in love with the weather lately! I am at work with a tiny window just high enough you can't see out of it. It's a cruel world to work without windows ;)

ReplyDeleteYep, I know just what you mean, but you say is so well! Enjoying your blog very much, glad to have stumbled upon it!
ReplyDeleteMinnie-you could write about freezing half to death naked in a gutter and make it sound good, and make me want it. You should write for the J. Peterman catalog. I'm loving this day too. I'm feeling a tad sick now, I think I caught your cold from visiting here. The day is still full of promise. Hope all your dreams for the day come true!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! If I were a cat, I would stretch and curl right back into my circle of fur happy and content!
ReplyDeleteperfectly said.

ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I love those grey and quiet mornings! I love a slow start and I love savoring all the snuggles that come with those mornings. The sun only peeked for a few minutes today for us, but the smell, feeling, and light of fall is in the air! Love it! Got my wreath and part of the house decorated! Yeah! Hope you had a wonderful day!

i can't stop dreaming of apple orchards, fresh donuts and cider...of course, it revolves around food with me;)
colored leaves and the crisp air take first place though!
There have been hints of autumn in the air here, and I am looking forward to it too. Jackie
ReplyDeletehow did you take such a brief moment and swallow me up entirely with it? absolutely beautiful... i hope you might join me for imperfect prose, poet-sister. stunning words.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine you there in your cozy farmhouse banging around in that beautiful kitchen with your gorgeous family around you. And now I want to be there more than anything waiting for you to put a satisfying dinner in front of me. Without peppers.
ReplyDeletei love the in between, don't you?! it's such a refreshing time. loved this, btw....simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMmmmmmm. I agree. This is a wondeful, fleeting time of year. I love the little bit of quiet it brings to the soul, and the opportunity to both snuggle up in the blankets while letting the crisp air in. Your words express it in such a lovely way!
ReplyDeletePure poetry...your writing makes me feel like I should jump up and grab Jane Austen! LOVE IT, awesome stuff. (and as for your last post about waiting on God to move on your behalf, here's a bit of encouragement from down under that I have been holding onto myself! - Isaiah 7:9 "If you don't take your stand in faith, you won't have a leg to stand on." (The Message version) Blessings, Shani x
