Me: Oh, I need to grab the checkbook.
Calvin: Why do you need the checkbook?
Me: So I can pay for your books.
Calvin: Oh, right! My chemistry books!
Me: ...No...You won't be learning chemistry in kindergarten.
Calvin: (pause) Oh. But the checkbook is for my math and science books, right?
Me: (I got nothing.)
Calvin: Do you know what my favorite thing is to learn?
Me: What?
Calvin: Math! And Chemistry! I just wish someone would teach me about chemistry...
Uh-oh.
Hahaha!! I love that boy! I cannot WAIT to see how his life unfolds. You've got a super intelligent cutie bug on your hands! And he's got the best mama ever!

math and chemistry?! oh my gosh! no way! :)
ReplyDeletehee larious.
ReplyDeletewill he be disappointed to paint and dance to music and feed the pet rabbit? Oh wait this isn't 1950...it's 2010, and kindergarten probably does include math and chemistry. No more arts!
And that concludes my rant. Tune in tomorrow when I tackle other social issues, like voter fraud. or something.
Very cute. I remember my heart just fluttering at the thought of sending my little one to kindergarten and biting back irrational tears at the Meet the Teacher event. I'm so glad he loves his school--that makes it so much easier to send him out the door each day. And Calvin just might get his chemistry...I got called twice that year to come pick up my child who had thrown up at the smell of vinegar during some in-class science experiments! Your boy will thrive, I'm sure...
ReplyDelete: )
ReplyDeleteSo cute!!! My oldest is always playing with test tubes and beakers! We're in for trouble!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I love that he is into chemistry and math. Looks like you will be doing a lot of supplemental teaching at home--you might as well go get those math and chemistry text books after all.
ReplyDeleteMy little one starts Kindergarten in the fall and is looking forward to getting homework!! I hope she is not too disappointed...
Where does he come up with this stuff? Math and Chemistry, yuck, but I bet that boy, he will be a smart one...and the girls will chase him too. Too Cute.
ReplyDeleteArhahahahahahaha! He's awesome! You're going to have a very smart student on your hands.

My 8-year old told me he can't wait to school to start again... I said, "Do you miss your friends?" He says, "No mom, I really miss doing math!" MATH???? I don't "do" math... why can't he like reading and writing?? I'm in SOOO much trouble!
ReplyDeleteI think pure ambition alone should allow him to skip a few grades! We'll be tackling Chemistry this year with my oldest (hope we don't blow up the house). I'll be printing out this post and taping it to his lab book!! Who wouldn't be motivated by seeing that double thumbs up everyday?...I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeletesmart boy! :)
ReplyDeleteThat boy is pure bliss!
ReplyDeleteI love how special Calvin is. He is a priceless soul. Want Jim to teach him physics?
ReplyDeleteYou should get that cutie one of those mad scientist sets... he would have a blast. I always wanted one and never got one...but, I am a little clumsy :) He will be balancing chemical equations before you know it
ReplyDeleteMichelle
LOVE IT! His teachers will love him!
ReplyDeleteR. will LOVE this. They are kindred spirits!
ReplyDeleteWe must get Fabio a lab coat. We must. I want to see him in one now Shabby. I want to be his teacher. Please. Tell him I'll serve him silky eggs everyday and make him home made bread. Please Shabby - pretty please? I heart Calvin.
ReplyDeleteI smell genius brewing. Wondering if giving him a lab kit would be wise or terrifying... or both.
ReplyDeleteCutest little mathematician/scientist ever!
Can Calvin come and be in the kindergarten class I work in at New Paris....PLEASE. We don't often get to see such enthusiastic responses to kindergarten! PLEASE?????
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious! Lock up all the cleaning supplies!
ReplyDeleteLOL! The kid has high goals...that's good!
ReplyDeleteI.love.it!!! and just remember- chemistry is involved in cooking too!! :) and fractions, etc...
ReplyDeleteOh that cracked me up! What a cutie he is! My two are currently waring - this year Everett goes to preschool & he got into a 5 day program where there is a bus & Aubrie is only in a 3 day program - no bus. She is NOT happy about it :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute. How does he even know about chemistry. He will do well. Like his thumbs up. How is Mama doing?
ReplyDeleteYou got a smart one! Could he be any more adorable??
ReplyDeleteLOL -- cutie pie! Tell him just to go ahead and go straight to high school :)
ReplyDeleteThat's cool ~ there goes Calvin, raising the bar for Kindergarden excellence! I think "Science Day" (Wednesdays) was my son's favorite day in 1st grade. Maybe Jayme could give you some ideas on teaching grade-level chemistry for 5 yr olds ~
ReplyDeleteCheers~
He is so cute! I'm sure he will enjoy kindergarten. Maybe Jayme could tutor.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! What a cutie you have. :)
ReplyDeleteAdrian could try "sneeking" him into Chemistry sometime this school year - we just got his class schedule today! That would be too much fun!
ReplyDeleteWonder what God has up His sleeve for Mr. Calvin's future?
Waiting with great expectations~
Heather
That made me giggle ... :)
ReplyDeleteLove that boy. My kids decided they want to learn chemistry this year, too. I tried to talk them into biology, but they basically told me they don't need no stinkin' biology. Bring on the chemistry.
ReplyDeleteThat made me anxious just reading the words...Kindergarten registration..one year to go.
ReplyDeleteLove the sweat band, I always think of Calvin when Jack is sweating his head off now.
I love it! That is funny! I would warn his teacher that she has a very bright boy on her hands! : ) Love the new sunflower picture! Nice change. : )
ReplyDeletehysterical... KIDS. :)
ReplyDeleteahaaha! This kid makes me grin!
ReplyDeleteIsn't his enthusiasm wonderful!! Enjoy it with him!!
ReplyDeleteShort Story: 1st grader slumped in desk saying out loud, "What's a scientist like me doing in a class like this?" (He was in art class).
Help him with his dreams....:)
That was so funny I had to share it with my husband! We both laughed out loud. Our son Bennett is also getting ready to start kindergarten. Promotion Sunday at Church happens on the 22nd & school on the 23rd. What a messy tear-filled couple of days those will be!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
Wow, school really starts early in your part of the country! I grew up starting after Labor Day and when my kids started the last week of August, well I just couldn't believe THAT... but the first HALF of August... it's still summer...
ReplyDeleteAnd Chemistry? I understand math but how in the world did this little fella ever come up with Chemistry? Adorable.
gut belly laughing!! that boy is ambitious! uh oh is what I would be sayin!! =) Science scares me ... and I home school! ha ha!
