Remember when I told you we would be picking Silas up from the Detroit airport, just as we did with Calvin?
Nope.
The rules have changed -- effective today.
Our paperwork is in, the checks are in the mail. As we told our Sunday School class earlier this week, "All we do now is wait!"
I mean, we do still have an awful lot of waiting to do, but now we also have a transcontinental trip for 2 to plan, and all that goes with that.
(Calvin overheard the phone call between Cory and I earlier today and feared that we would be leaving him here alone. )
??
I have to admit - this news rattled me. I know I regularly wax poetic about my love for surprises, but maybe from now on I need to be more specific.
After processing this for a few hours, I'm left believing that this really is the best thing. It is best for Silas to go right from his foster mama's arms to ours, without a whole 'nother person in between. It is best for him to endure the grueling travel with us. I imagine it will not be a super fun plane ride, but he'll have no choice but to spend a lot of time sitting on my lap and sleeping in my arms, and that is good.
Had we known earlier what we know now (i.e. the trip will only be 4 days or so) we may very well have come to this decision on our own.
But, you know what I like? I like that even when we don't have all of the information, God does.
I'm open to travel suggestions (for the first time, I'm re-considering my position on the Kindle). I also have a suggestion for those of you setting out for South Korea in the near future: Do not Google image Korean Air. Just trust me and don't do it. But if you must, DO NOT look at the second row of images.
Holy Toledo - We're going to Korea!
OMG how exciting and I'm so happy for you I can't wait to see that lil Silas safe and sound in his new home with his Mommy and Daddy!!
ReplyDeleteHugs~Kelly
Wow, Wow, Wow. It brings back memories (nightmare) of our Russian Travel.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck...this is your labor pains :)
XOXO
How exciting for your family :O) I have several friends who have gone thru international adoption, and they have all had wonderful experiences....even with long flights and days of traveling. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThat is very exciting news! I will be thinking and praying for your family and a safe trip and smooth transition for Silas and his new siblings!
ReplyDeleteYour warning about the google image has me intrigued.... I don't know if I can not look!!
Wow! How exciting!
ReplyDelete(Naturally I had to go to google images to see...yikes!)
Now you got me googling Korean Air...never did see what you were talking about. Soo curious. I would be a little nervous to go to Korea, but wow what an awesome opportunity to see where your little one is from. I'm so excited for you!!
ReplyDeleteWow, so excited for you. We've only been domestic to 'pick-up ' and that was labor enough. I actually fell asleep with my oldest(3 at the time) while a complete stranger, man no less, fed our week old a bottle. I figured he couldn't go anywhere, he was a nice grandpa type, everyone had seen the baby with me & I was exausted from our 'labor'...
ReplyDeleteSo excited for your family, what a blessing, what an attitude! So glad you're looking at it half-full. Can't wait for the next' All Points Bulletin!'
Absolutely can NOT wait to meet him! I think it's exciting that you get to go! Is Calvin okay with you going now that he knows he won't be alone?
ReplyDeleteI. Want. A. Kindle.
Get one.
I can't imagine how tough the trip/flights will be, but I think it will be pretty awesome that your kids will get to meet Silas for the first time straight from your (and Cory's) arms!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...now I want to google Korean Air and look at the 2nd row!! Ok, I wont but what was it?
ReplyDeleteHow amazing you are to journey half way around the globe to carry home your new boy. Could I be so open, so brave? I often wonder. I can't wait to see pics of your 3rd.. so very excited for you and your family.
I'm so excited for you!!!! Your punkin' is coming home. I will say prayers that all goes smoothly...keeping your sense of humor will be key, I'm sure.

So exciting!!! what an amazing journey .... i will pray for patience and endurance .... and a smooth "delivery". so happy for you, your husband, and little silas. :)
ReplyDeleteLife sure does keep coming at you doesn't it? Say it ain't so about the Kindle. So you know I immediately had to google Korean Air. You were counting on that, right? I so didn't need to see that before I fly today. I'm already paranoid and then last night Emma asked me what if my plan crashes. Ugh. I'm slightly a mess.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for Silas. He is such a lucky little guy. I can't wait for you to get him and to hear all about it.
So excited for you!!! Prayers will be with you during your travel...but how wonderful to bring Silas home with your family! Can't wait to hear more about it...I'm really tempted to look it up though just because you said not too:)
ReplyDeleteOh, good luck! This will be great for you to be able to see Calvin and Silas' birth country. What a wonderful experience this will be!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like good news! Just think of all the good food in Korea! This will be a great experience for everyone!
ReplyDeletegreat post! we will be praying for Silas, as well as for all the current Martins :-)
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing this updated info!
Yippeee...it's getting so close. Can't believe the travel plans have changed but oh well, right?! :) It will be pretty cool to see a little of Korea too for your sweet boys.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know...maybe you should read twilight during your flight...it promises to keep you entertained. And for some reason, I just don't like the idea of a Kindle but I know some people LOVE them. I don't really like reading off of screens though. You'll have to let us know if you get one...and what you think.
How Exciting!! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for a smooth transition with little Silas.
ReplyDeleteHoly Seoul they are coming from America! Very cool. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThe one photo wasn't pretty, but I did appreciate this one: http://www.atmgloballogistics.com/docsjpg/Images-News/News/KoreanAir.jpg
Get a kindle ... the argument that reading off screens is hard doesn't apply because if you've seen one, it actually looks like you're reading off of paper ... also, can I borrow it?
ReplyDeleteHooray!
ReplyDeleteGod is soooo GOOD:) Your little gift from God will soon be in your arms~WOW! How amazing...How Awsome...How perfect!
ReplyDeleteI will be praying for safe travels and a smooth trasition for Silas! LOL Katie
That's so cool... very happy/excited for you all.
ReplyDeleteyay for flying to south korea! i think it's fantastic that you'll have the chance to bring silas home yourselves, and for what it's worth, my brother and sister in law have survived the flight many times over.
ReplyDeleteon the kindle: i hear the nook is giving the kindle some fierce competition, what with free browsing and the chance to share books with friends. (not that i'm tempted on either count; you shall have to pry good old paper books from my cold, dead hands.)
:)
WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT????????????????????????????????????
ReplyDeleteThat gives me chills. Congratulations!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou comment about your new love sleeping in your arms and sitting on your lap for the LONG plane ride made my heart melt...he is one Lucky Lucky little boy! I am excited for you~
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you!! Some of my children's favorite stories are of their trips home (son from Ukraine and daughter from Russia)!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for you all! What a happy and special time for your family, the waiting is difficult and I hope it goes by quickly.
I am so happy for you! I will be praying that all goes well.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne
Wow, what big news! Please keep us posted on timing so we can be praying for you. My friend just left to teach english in South Korea for a year last week. She is adjusting to life well. If you have any questions for her I'm sure she'd love to answer them.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Nora
How very exciting for your family. Silas sure is a lucky little one. Praying it all goes smoothly for you travelling and for the little ones waiting at home to meet their new sibling.
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting!!! So happy for you guys and can't wait to meet Silas. I shouldn't have looked at the second row...
ReplyDeleteLori
What an exciting trip, you guys are great parents and Silas is so lucky to go to a good family. Good luck, when are you going?
ReplyDeleteCan you beleive it, Silas's delivery date will soon be here!! God is so good ,and would never allow plans to be made without His approval for this very special little guy. He holds the whole world in His hands, and He too will be smiling the day you and Cory take our grandson into your arms for the first time.
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting time for you and your family! My husband and I flew to Seoul, Korea in July of this year to pick up our daughter and absolutely LOVED it. We also left our older two children(3 and 4) at home with grandparents so if you have any questions whatsover about traveling, Seoul or anything I'd be happy to pass along any info that I have. You'll have a wonderful time, can't wait to read about your journey. :)

How awesome!
ReplyDeleteIf somebody has to know all the details, I'd rather it be God than me. Or my gossipy sister-in-law, for that matter. :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your growing family. It's nothing short of a miracle.
Wow! xo
ReplyDeleteJust enjoy this time, you are so brave and this kid is going to be so lucky!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to all of you!
Char
