Me in Real Time

First things first: I'm a little weepy over Jim and Pam's wedding. I don't know what it is about me, I always tear up when I see good people - real people - in love and making it official. I'm a big wedding crier, which contradicts the fact that I'm not much of an everyday, garden variety crier. At my own wedding I just barely choked up. I was smiling so big that my cheeks were sore. That is my wish for every bride.

What does all of this have to do with mums?

Nothing at all.

But aren't they pretty?

Yeah, it's Fall. I've mostly come to terms with it.

In a gesture of goodwill, I ushered in the season by making pumpkin cupcakes late last night. Brooke posted them on her blog and it just so happened that I had picked up a random can of pumpkin the day before. Serendipitous.

Do you ever feel like everything that comes out of your mouth (or off your fingertips) is about as exciting as bologna on white?

That's how I'm feeling right now. My apologies. Feel free to pretend this never happened. Blame Jim and Pam.

But by all means, make this soup*. I know, it looks kind of nasty. I make this all of the time and I almost always take its portrait, and it always, always just looks ick. It's not at all photogenic, this one.

I couldn't have said it better myself. It tastes SO good. And it's such a cinch to make. And it's as hearty as the Winter is long.

Do you ever wish I would fall back into my previously semi-organized ways and write a coherent, topical post?

Me, too.

But people, this is my life. It's not always organized. If you could see the current state of my living room, you would know what I'm talking about. I'm wearing brown sweatpants with my favorite J Crew button-down and I don't care who knows it. My kid routinely leaves the house with a woman's headband as a "sweatband". And he almost never matches.

I just wrote such a nonsensical sentence that I had no choice but to delete it.

You can thank me for that later.

*Stuffed Pepper Soup
Brown 1-1.5 lbs. hamburger with 3 chopped bell peppers and one chopped onion.
Return to pot and add two cans tomato soup and one large can of undrained diced tomatoes.
Add 2-3 cups cooked brown rice.
Simmer until heated through.
Salt to taste.
