Unclutter me.

Today over at The Inspired Room they are talking about home organization. This topic truly warms my heart. I will never tire in my pursuit of being more organized at home. It's tricky at times, with two little ones, but it is a worthy endeavor. I am always trying to find warm, loving homes for all of our clutter. Nothing can kill the look of a beautiful room more quickly than piles of stray clutter. And I should know, because I regularly kill the look of my rooms with mounds of un-filed mail, art projects, magazines, you get the point. Boom! You're dead.

One of my most hated forms of clutter is electrical cords. And I have now read that last sentence exactly 13 times and cannot figure out how to make it right. Someone, help!

Back to the hated cords...they are just sooooo un-vintage. Such a reminder to me that I do not live in the 1950's. Such a slap in the face that I am not and will never be Laura Ingalls. Or even Nellie Oleson.

Here's what I have come up with:

Pretty tins, right? I love metal that is painted blue.

Now, open the lids and you'll find my junk in one and Cory's junk in the other. I was nice and gave him the one with the lid that opens without the use of a pry bar. I wasn't recently crowned Queen of the Castle for nothing...

Charge away, baby!

Ah, that's better.

I'm off to the mercantile now! I may even stop and say hello to Doc Baker, while I'm out.

  1. I'm with you I hate cords! clever idea, I will be keeping that in mind.
    Thanks for the tip.
    Have a great day.

  2. Brilliant idea...and one that I may have to steal.

  3. If you're ever up for a new challenge, you can help unclutter my house. ;)
    Jessica F.

  4. Awesome idea! I've got a little basket that I tuck our phone cords behind, I love those tins-so much prettier than cords.

  5. i was wondering what other people did with their "cord junk"!!! i keep mine in a junk drawer in the kitchen but all the cords get tangled's a mess!!!!!

  6. I'm going to take this approach with my whole house. I'm just going to erect a small silo just outside my kitchen and pile everything in there.

Hmm...then again, I might need to rethink that one.

By the by, I'll bet you could cut and seal little holes into the lids so that the chargers could work while the stuff was IN THE CAN. But then you'd still have cords visible, I suppose.

At any rate, you're far better at this than I am. I'm still in the "possibly fatal" "Probably okay" method of sorting.

PS - thanks for swinging by my blog! I appreciated both the visit and the sharing! :)

  7. I agree! I have "issues" with cords hanging all over! Cords just scream clutter. You have come up with some amazing solutions!

    Great blog!

    Happy spring~

  8. I spied with my little eye on Sunday morning what was probably a charger to some swanky camera of Cory's plugged in. I so wanted to grab the camera and take a pic. :)

  9. Oh my gosh! I love your blog! Really, really love it! Love the way you write. You are clearly a little sassier than your average girl and I can totally relate. And you're living the dream! I can't wait to go back and read your older posts. And yes those pom poms are from the MS kit. Hugs, Jen

  10. Your sentence was correct but you also could have written it:
Electrical cords are one of my most hated forms of clutter.
Don't you hate it when something you write all the time doesn't sound or look right to you all of a sudden.
I am new to your site and am enjoying it very much.

  11. shannan, i completely agree -- cords are in fact of the devil and i await the day of deliverance and we live long and happy in a wireless world.

  12. Oh so clever! I too dislike all the cords and forever trying to tidy things up! Great ideas!

  13. Great idea! I have an empty pot on my counter that can be put to good use! Thanks!

  14. THIS is a great idea!!! I have my cell phone sitting on the kitchen counter right now.... now, I have a new challenge to find the perfect tin!

  15. Shannan, I just love you. Your posts nearly always evoke the same too responses in me: inspiration and mirth.

You've now got dozens of people looking at their electrical cords with disdain while scurrying to find something cute in which to hide them.

    Inspire on!

  16. Ooops! I just misspelled two!

    Two, no too.
